Overview

As an Associate Producer/Video Editor within the Marketing and Communications department at the UAlbany it was my job to produce high quality promotional videos for the school. This included interviews, press conferences, orientation videos, ceremonies, video holiday cards and more.

From an editing perspective, I think what I learned the most was how to visually tell a story. Working with the team, I helped shoot, edit, and animate the videos embedded below. We used primarily DSLR and HDV cameras and FCPX/AE in post. After the approval process, we uploaded the videos to the UAlbany.tv website as well as the UAlbany YouTube Channel.

Celebration of Champions – UAlbany Basketball

Summary

UAlbany had a record breaking year of basketball with both the men’s and women’s teams making it to the NCAA tournament. I was tasked to pull together footage to make an exciting highlight reel.  I tried experimenting with animation styles by cutting out still images, applied filters that isolated the school’s colors, and moved them in a way that appeared like slow motion.

Title

2012 UAlbany Holiday Card

Summary

I animated the university’s holiday card video that was designed to look like a pop-up book with moving pieces. Each scene takes you around the school’s campus and the Albany area to highlight new developments from that year.

Title

UAlbany 2012 Spring Commencement

Summary

With a team of three I helped shoot UAlbany’s Spring Commencement, gathering both B-Roll and the keynote speeches. Shortly afterwards I quickly pulled together footage and created a highlight video of the event. Judge Judy was honored because her son(s) graduated from University at Albany.

Title

Fallbany 2012 :15 Commercial Spot

Summary

In addition to animating the intro and outro title cards, I edited together past footage from the annual fall fest, “Fallbany”. This :15 spot was placed online and aired on TV in the local Albany area.

Title

UAlbany CDIT Program

Summary

In the marketing department we worked to highlight certain fields of study or programs offered at the university. I assisted in shooting and editing/mixing the footage and added additional VFX to boost the momentum of the piece.

Title

UAlbany – East Asian Studies

Summary

We shot these interviews in the studio and I edited/animated the footage to help tell a compelling and visually interesting story. I wanted the viewer to have the opportunity to learn about people’s lives, cultures, and backgrounds through the eyes of students.

Title

School of Public Health Costa Rica Trip

Summary

This promo video was edited together for the School of Public Health, and presents the opportunities students may have while studying abroad. The challenge became pulling pieces of “gorilla-style” footage we received from the students, and making it work with some of the B-Roll we shot around the campus.

Title

UAlbany – Study Abroad in Tanzania

Summary

This video fits within the UAlbany “Study Abroad” series. I helped shoot and edit the interview in front of a green screen and parsed together footage we received from her trip.

Title

Day After Day Art Exhibit

Summary

Although I did not edit this video, I shot B-Roll at an art exhibit. I was aiming to get some artistic shots using rack focus and other techniques. I enjoyed overseeing several interns who helped with the production.

Title

Big Purple Growl 2013

Summary

This is an example of a day-of edit. I received the footage from the event and had one day to edit together a highlight montage. I often enjoy finding ways to connect the music with the visuals.

Title

Admissions Outcomes – Steven Severin

Summary

The Admission Outcomes video series required the team to travel across New York to interview Alumni of the university. Back in the editing room, I found ways to piece together B-Roll with “behind-the-scenes” shots.

Title

Admissions Outcomes – Cynthia Bernal

Summary

The Admissions Outcomes video series brought us to Rochester, NY where we setup and shot a quick interview with B-Roll. I then edited the piece together, including photos that were later designed for a school pamphlet.
