Overview

This IP was a collaboration with SkyShowtime and Peacock, starring Colin Firth as Jim Swire. It tells the story of one of the worst air disasters in history: the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. I co-directed outside vendors and collaborated with producers, directors, designers, and SkyShowtime to conceptualize the key-art and prep for a shoot in Scotland where filming was taking place.

Aside from the design of the key-art itself, at the time I was working on this campaign I was taking a Story Analysis course at UCLA, writing a fair amount of coverage for different films and series. After reading through Lockerbie, it helped me pin-point what makes for a good concept, plot, story structure, and overall character development in a mini-series.

The struggle of this title was finding a good balance between suspense/drama while also showing respect to the families who lost loved ones. Given the title, a small town in Scotland, we needed to keep in mind that domestic audiences may not be as familiar with this story compared to those internationally. Additionally, At the time of the expected release date, Netflix/BBC was gearing up to release a similar story (more action based) under the same name, “Lockerbie”.

This Peacock/SkyShowtime series focused heavily on Jim Swire and the investigative journalism he pursued in search for answers on behalf of the people of Flight 103, and for his daughter, Flora. In a notable photograph Flora is seen holding “Forget-me-nots”, which felt symbolic to the story. Ultimately, after much discussion, the star-sell direction of Colin Firth was the most important, especially when viewing a small thumbnail on platform.
